To avoid my tendency to shoot multiple deer with my AR, I picked up a CVA Scout TD. The longer barrel lets the 250gr FTX fly at 2385fps which yields 3157 ft-lbs of energy. As if the 16" AR wasn't potent enough, this jewel raises the bar.

Blood trails tend to be short and "chunky".

As expected, big holes are the norm.

She made a fine Hunters for the Hungry donation.


I'm still waiting on a buck, but so far its great doe medicine.

Entrance or exit?

Believe it or not, the first photo is the inside of the entrance.

The exit, photo below, was far more tame in comparison. I didn't notice until now that there is a nice chunk of the copper right near the exit hole in the picture.

The added speed may be pushing the FTX to its limits, but I'm totally happy with short "chunky" blood trails.

What kind of accuracy are you ringing out of that Scout? Been thinking of picking up the same gun. I've got a 6.5 Creedmoor compact on the way to the FFl for my boys.

Accuracy is excellent. It rivals my Bushmaster 16" upper which is saying something. Both of them will dot an eye at 100 yards. Here is a photo of my sighting it in at 100 yards with a Burris 4.5-14x42 on top. It initially shot low, then I walked it in.

I had to shoot one more single just to check.

Not dead center, but close enough.

The CVA has a great trigger. If mine doesn't hit where I'm aiming at 100 yards, it's my fault.

Looks like a good shooter for sure!
