Now that we have the winners, maybe I can tell the rest of my story on how I totally botched my second encounter with this prairie pooch on the very next day and how I finally got this crazy yote to go away.....

So...
The very next morning, I was getting close to the house after a bit of Christmas shopping and suddenly remembered the coyote encounter the morning before. I decided to slow down and scan the south pasture as I approached the house and sure enough, there he was just lounging around in the cedars in the south pasture! I pulled into the driveway and went straight to the gun room and grabbed the Thumper. As I walked out on the front porch, I expected him to still be loitering around in those cedars but Nooo.... He had closed the distance and was now not more than 30 yards away from my truck moving closer to the house. I threw down on him, but it was too late! He had seen me! As he hoofed it outta there all I saw was a furry blur in my scope. I squeezed off a running shot, but I'm really not good with moving targets. Ask the many doves that laugh at me every fall. Yep.... Another embarrassing miss. So I spent Christmas disgusted with myself. But I guess he decided to go spend the holidays with family because I didn't see him again for several weeks. Meanwhile, I got a new scope for thumper so I took the older Nikko Stirling off, bought a Burris 30mm PEPR mount and installed my new larger Nikko Stirling on thumper and waited for a good day to site it in. But the weather just wouldn't cooperate and the 450 Bushmaster ended up back in it's nice warm safe. I guess Mr Prairie Poodles' curiousity finally got the best of him a couple of weeks ago. I had been home from work for about 3 hours when my Aussie went nuts barking at something back around the creek. I could tell from the way she was acting, it was a yote. The first gun I laid my eyes on was my old trusty single shot 20 Gauge and a box of buckshot. I grabbed the shotgun, chambered a shell and stood at the kitchen window observing my Aussie, as she was tracking movement just down on the creekbank. Sure enough, Mr. Yote popped up out of the creekbed on the west fenceline of my north pasture! I walked out on the back porch in a Tshirt and my boxers and at about 50 yards, I peppered that yote with #3 buck shot! I went back in the house got my coveralls on and went to the spot where he had been standing. I didn't find any blood or fur but that #3 buckshot doesn't really poke large holes soni wasn't surprised. I did find several branches that had been splintered right where he had been standing so I guess I must have peppered him enough to get the message. Now, I'm not sure if it was the traumatic experience of getting dusted with buckshot or the trauma of seeing me in my boxers, but I haven't had any daytime encounters since.

This is Ben. Thanks for letting me in the contest and voting for me. It took me 12 hunts to get a shot. I want to get my first buck next year with a 450.
