New Member Build ?'s

Postby ChadB » Mon Jun 06, 2022 2:00 pm

Hi All,
My name is Chad. I've built an AR in 5.56 and another in .22LR. Now I want to build a big bore. I'm not building a complete rifle, just a new upper as the lower I built for my 5.56 is very reliable and solid.

I have read a ton about the 450BM and been searching and reading here a lot. My main question now is that I'm ready to buy the barrel and I'm not sure which one. I don't have a much of a budget, so I'm looking at the lower priced ones around $100 or so. Right now, it looks like I have it down to these three options:

https://www.classicfirearms.com/ar15-18 ... arkerized/

https://www.durkintactical.com/product/ ... ck-system/

https://www.deltateamtactical.com/Gaunt ... _7927.html

Do any of you guys have any opinion on these or any other options I should look at in the same price range?

Thank you!
Chad

Those barrels may work fine, they may even be made by the same maker? The barrel is one of the 2 most important components of the AR rifle, the other being the trigger. Cut costs elsewhere, but not on these parts. Buy a barrel from a known quality maker.

The most important part of a rifle is the barrel....its better to weight a little longer save up couple more dollars and get a known quality item than to buy a unknown piece of junk then regret it....plus after having the barrel for a while you might change your mind on what you need or want and the cheep barrel is not worth much money or even able to sell....

First off I wouldn't even consider other than looking at any of the barrels you have listed....first and biggest problem is all them are threaded 5/8"-24....it may be only 1/32" of a inch difference than 11/32"-24 but its a world of diffidence to me and if there's even a remote chance of using a suppresser bottom line more metal is better.....

Fathers Day is coming you should be able to find a DEAL on a good barrel....

I personally would buy only from a manufacturer who has a stellar record making the 450 Bushmaster barrels. Price wouldn’t factor too much into it since it would only be the upper. Cry Once. Don’t cry later.

Thanks for the input guys!
I totally understand your views on the higher end, more costly options. I would definitely go that route if I could.
I ended up ordering an 18" barrel from BCA. I have read a lot of good things about them and their products, so hopefully that the best in my price range.
I look forward to reading and learning a lot more on this board.
Thank you!
