If you role your own like I did and you intend on putting a Limbsaver on the end, consider using an A1 stock instead. It's shorter length will compensate for the added length that the recoil pad adds. You can buy just the A1 shells from Fulton Armory for $20 and use your A2 hardware with it. I used 2-part fiberglass filler with fiberglass fibers entrained in it. Adds a nice degree of solidness to the stock and you can cast a metal tube into it, with a threaded end cap to hold the "shake-weight". Then you can easily experiment with different implementations of weight and spring combinations to tune it to your setup.

If you don't want to role your own, John makes a fine product already set up for it. Just so you know, it will weigh more than just the collapsible stock when all is said and done, but it balances out my 20" with brake right at the mag well.

I have a 78 inch wingspan and always found the A1 just a little short for my goofy arms. When I tighten up behind it, my nose can actually goes past the charging handle. I'll have to experiment for good fitment and eye relief. I also was toying with the idea of trying smaller diameter shock absorbers to go in the cheek well extensions of the Voltor EMOD. The reason I like a collapsable stock on a 20 inch barrel is most of my hunting spots are a few miles into deep woods. I've always preferred stalking to "drive up/ deer stand/ shoot". Although as I get older..I like dragging 150 pounds of meat less and less lol. Although I'm new to the forum, I have already grown to appreciate the years of experience and machining expertise you and others bring to the table. I will have to pick your brain on future build ups . Nothing is more fun than building/ specializing a weapon that you actually use.

20" Bushmaster upper, Tactical Inovations stripped lower, M.O.E. stock, grip, trigger guard, cheap 1pc mount and tasco 3x9x40 (for now)

Mounted on a Remington R-15 with two stage trigger, AR-Rester hydraulic buffer, 20" with a blackened Ross Brake, PEPR mount with a Leupold 2x7 UltimateSlam SABR scope. I am heading off to shoot it in about 15 minutes:

Just got back from shooting. Wow! What a joy. 4 rounds to get on center, 5 rounds to pattern (cloverleaf at 100 yards from a sitting position with a tripod) and the rest of a 20 round box for fun! Recoil is no more than a mild 30-30 round and like has been said, more of a shove than a punch.

I look forward to elk season!

Been surfing here for quite some time and thought I would post a photo of my 450. I named it The Ogre..........Next up is a Weaver 4X Scout scope and she should be just about right.

Bead blasting will give it a lustrous gray finish. That's what I use. Sandblasting with black diamond grit (coal slag) will give it an even duller, darker, rougher, gray finish.
You can pick up a 250ml sample of This Chemical for $10.00 shipped. It will give you a more dark finish. It requires close attention to surface preparation and thorough degreasing.
