Time to take a run to all of the stores and see if anyone has the powershock. Shipping ammo up to Alaska is expensive, so I may have to see if my local ammo guy is interested in ordering some. The 450 still seems pretty scarce up here so I've been scouring the reloading section.

Hello everyone, new guy here, first post.

Just an FYI. I contacted Federal to ask them about their new ammo and was informed that the Federal 450BM 300gr non-typical ammo began shipping last week & should reach the retail shelves soon.

At the moment I have some of their 300gr Power-shok, but their non-typical ammo is supposed to have a slightly higher BC.

Does anyone have any reports on how the 300gr Power-shok performs on game?

Welcome Aboard OM!

That sure looks like the Speer 300gr DeepCurl.

Thanks. Close up picture of the projectile.

I don't have a shellholder or I would have already dissected one, but I don't know if my collet puller will fit a .45" bullet.

If you don't mine my asking, what did you have to pay for a box of the Federal Ammo and are they the 300gr? Thanks

Midway list them for $27.99. Of course they are out of stock. The ones at Midway were 300 gr. at a listed velocity of 1900ft/sc!!

Not sure if this is a violation of the rules and if it is please delete it, mods, but I purchased two boxes of the 300gr Federal Power-shok from SGAmmo for $59.90 shipped. It was $23.95/box of 20 and shipping was $12. I could have ordered more boxes for the same shipping price but I would like to see how they shoot from my gun before I invest too much $$ in this specific ammo.

From my experiments, pumping those 300 grainers up to 2200fps in a mid-length gassed, 20" AR was no big deal with the right powder, so 1900fps is a walk on the tame side. That's OK, as I'm sure it keeps the litigation department from having a conniption fit. Kicking them at 2200 really made my AR buck and snort. Brass expansion wasn't bad but I'm sure it was a lot more than 1900.

just sayin'...

I haven't had a chance to test the new ammo out yet, but when I manage to find time I'll have my chronograph with me and I'll post the velocity from my 18" barrel at 15'. Still waiting for the scope and mount to arrive. I could use one of my existing scopes but I've read some stories about the magnum pistol powder being rough on scopes so I'm going to wait until the new scope gets here rather than possibly sacrifice one of my current scopes. I don't know if that's just internet urban legend or not but I'd rather not find out. No, I haven't shot mine yet, she's still unfired.

Hoot,
I about busted a gut when I read in your post "having a conniption fit". I haven't heard that expression in at least 40 years. That was my mother's favorite saying when I got upset as a kid, I had forgotten all about it. Thanks for the reminder.
