Hitting 4” high

So I’m shooting a 450 BM on the ar platform and a Leupold box freedom 450 BM scope. Using hornady’s factory 250 grain the bullets hit 4-4 1/2” high when the scope is set at 0 (100) yards. This would be fine on a normal scope but this scope is set for the 450bm ballistics. So zeroing it a 100 yards should be zeroed in on scope and when adjusted to 200 yards the crosshairs move up to adjust for the distance. When you are at 0 the turret adjustment won’t turn any further. Any suggestions?

I'm no expert on ranging scopes but I'd bet you're using a +20 MOA rail instead of a flat one. Just a wild guess. What rings/rail did you install with the scope? Sounds like a call to Leupold is in order.

have only been around one CDS scope, but don't you need to loosen a screw on the dial to get zeroed, then reset it to "0" once your sighted in?

Hoot, you are about right. It is a slightly raised scope mount. It is about 0.625” from top of rail to bottom of scope and about 1.5” to the center of scope to top of rail.

Al, you are probably correct. There is a small set screw in the adjuster but nowhere in the installation instructions did it mention that adjustment. I also scoured the web and couldn’t find anything. Only advertising and paid “reviews”.

Thanks for the reference. While it is a different scope I’m sure that the idea is the same. Loosen up the top turret, adjust down to zero the scope, then reattach. Sounds like it’s just a stopper/tab that is keeping it from turning.

Good Point Al. That's what I had to do when I set the CDS scope up on SIL's rifle. 3 very small allen head screws that have to be loosen once you have it sighted in at 100 yards, then set turret to zero and re-tightened screws.

So I loosened the three hex set screws and turned it to 150 yards and retightened. It took a couple of times but I adjusted it 16 clicks down which should get me my 4” at 100 yards. Won’t be able to get out to try it out for a week or two but if it comes in accurate then I’ll try it out deer hunting this year.

Since I only have a 100 yard range in the back yard, if the gun is really zeroed, as I stay at 100 yards I should see the bullet rise on the target when adjusted to 200 and then 300 yards. Correct? I should be able to use hornady’s ballistic chart, zeroed at 100, to take their drop and see a rise an equal distance. Does that sound right?

So my 100 yard would be right on. My 200 would be about 4.25” and 300 yards be about 10.5”?
