Newbie Build - Parts Question

Postby program4444 » Fri Nov 27, 2020 1:40 pm

Hi all. Admitted new guy here. I have several ARs but am new to 450BM. A relative recently asked for components to build an upper for Christmas, and I am a sucker for anyone in the family who wants to build guns! So I am off in search of parts in the midst of the Covid/Presidential rush. But again, I have no idea what I am looking for.

I've found an Aero Precision XL upper (enlarged ejection port) but I'm struggling on the barrel. Most are sold out, and the ones I can find are Bear Creek and Anderson (which I read is likely Bear Creek) with a few others mixed in. What brands should I be looking for if I want a decent barrel? How about length for a guy looking to hunt whitetail (longest I'd see him attempt a shot is 75 yards...if even that)? Is there appreciable difference in the various BCGs? I know it is just a 450 bolt needed, but I'll just buy the entire group.

Appreciate any help I can get. I've been reading the forum and will keep doing so, but figured I'd ask for help.

Thanks!

Ended up finding a 20” Bushmaster-made barrel for cheap on CDNN. 20” longer than I wanted but if dad wants it shorter I’ll have the smith I use cut it down to 16” — or 14.7 and pin on the brake.

I just ordered one of those myself. Let the build begin. Now researching the BCG. Anyone tell me if the one Aim Surplus sells is GTG?
