If you had to do it all over again??

For those running the 450 in an ar platform- if you had to do it all over again, knowing what you know now- what would you do differently/the same?

Buy/build?

Components?

Rifle or pistol?

Barrel length?

Twist?

Optics?

Bullet/load?

Obviously people have different use requirements but interested in any observations/input.

Thanks, Matt.

If I did it again?

First thing I can think of would be a lighter profile barrel, lighter behind the gas block that is. Maybe a lighter/shorter handguard, to shave weight.

Also maybe get a barrel with a more common thread pitch, just to have access to more muzzle brake selection, not a lot of choice with 5/8x32 threads. Lighter muzzle brake also.

My upper is a Bear Creek Arsenal 16in upper, hard to beat for the price, mine has been surprisingly accurate and reliable for $225 delivered. No way would I want to shoot this with less than a 16in barrel.

I haven't had an issue with the 1-24twist rate, so would just leave it there.

Have tested up to 335gr bullets in mine, but the 250gr class bullets seem to do all that I need.

My 2c.

First year Michigan allowed 450 Bushmaster in the Limited Rifle Zone didn't have much time to hunt down a rifle....picked up a Bushmaster with a 20" barrel shot a train car load of deer....
Michigan allowed suppressors several years ago....would much rather have a rifle with a 16" barrel....just hate to give up the barrel its a shooter....

I wouldn't change a thing about my A2 Dissy, but it was built around an agenda. It runs great, shoots accurately.

If I ever go down the suppressor road I might get a P/W job done for 16" OAL, free float, optic, etc, but I don't see that any time soon.

Great replies, thanks.

Just picked up a lower and considering a 450 upper- looking for tips on what to do/not do.

Are you thinking for hunting, or just for something to do? Optic? Or, irons?

Nothing different. Bear Creek 18" upper. Nikon BDC glass. Fills the freezer EVERY YEAR. Even with factory 250 hor blk's.

Savage axis build, have not put a round thru it yet. (too cold) but I am sure it will perform as designed.

Good questions- short answer is that I haven't really decided yet.

I usually work with bolt guns, new to the AR world.

Bought a bare lower as a lgs had them on sale- figure I'll work on it while I figure out what to do for an upper. Right now a regular 223, 350 Legend and the 450 are the main contenders. I live in Iowa so the t=straightwalls have the advantage of being able to pull double duty as hunting rigs. A buddy has a BCA 450 upper that he said I could borrow to check out, will probably take him up on that. I'm leaning toward iron sights but not 100% on that.
