Another 450 build

Postby jjgixxer » Wed Feb 16, 2022 2:27 am

I’m new to the forum, I have been searching and looking at old posts before I registered. I seen a lot of budget builds and what’s the best build for the money. I haven’t seen really any posts about high end builds. I’m looking to do a 12.5 or something similar for deer this year. So it will be a pistol build since the nfa rule won’t allow for hunting. I have a hybrid 46 I will be putting on it. I’m looking for high end upper builds / barrels / bolts. I have a vortex razor hd gen 3 in a scalerwerx mount going on it. What’s your dream builds if you didn’t have to pay for it?

Welcome Aboard JJ!

Whatever other upper end components that you wind up going with, for sure get a TiN BCG and bolt. I just finished working on one for a fellow that was really cruddy and it cleaned up like a dream. Being as slippery as it was, I'm relatively certain it will not go through the same break-in tedium as one encounters with phosphated BCG's and bolts. Other than that advice, I won't be of much help as I don't do AR pistols.

If I was shopping for high end builds my first stop would be Franklin Armory.

No TiN BCG there and they've discontinued their 14.5" 450b barrel.

I am one who doesn't equate money spent with reliability or accuracy, so not going to be any help here. I have over a dozen AR builds, including a 450 and none cost more than 1k and most are in the 600ish range. This is apart from optics of course. I don't overspend on handguards for one, and jump on sales when they are applicable. The barrel is of primary concern, and I prefer nitride bolt carriers. I don't touch NiB for any reason. Good luck and please share pics when you get there.

I’m not new to the ar platform, I have built a lot of rifles. From mk18’s, Daniel defense, novekse builds. I’m just new to the 450 game, not sure what barrels are giving good accuracy.

Don't know what State you live in ? Never heard that a SBR cannot be used for hunting ?
Only Federal Law is you need permission to take a SBR from your State to a another State......

I live in ohio, we can use suppressors for hunting but not sbr. So we have to use “pistols” unless it’s changed within the last couple years
