Removing Ruger 450 muzzle brake

Postby buckeye3405 » Sat Apr 20, 2024 10:17 am

I have a Hynrid 46 suppressor coming from silencer co for my Ruger scout 450 Bushmaster. Anyone have detailed instructions on how to remove the factory Ruger muzzle brake? It seems to have some kind of nut which is separate from the brake itself.

It'*s sometimes referred to as either a jam nut or set nut, between the brake and the barrel. You need a wrench that fits it while being narrow enough not to influence either the brake or the barrel. Bicycle wrenches like this

work well if you don'*t own a set of flat wrenches. Anyway, you screw the jam nut away from the brake to un-jam it and both should rotate off normally, after that. In some extreme cases, you may have to warm the brake if its been on there for some length of time, to aid in it releasing.

In Theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In Practice, there is.

I was abel to get the brake off and now I’m waiting on my 11/16x24 Bravo direct thread mount from Silencer Co for my Hybrid 46. I used a long handled 7/8” wrench and it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.

Shot it Sunday with some factory Hornady Custom 250gr FTX. Can really quiets it down and the factory loads were measuring 2275fps on the chrono. One thing I did have happen is it’s been a while since I cleaned my scout and after 3 or 4 shots the bolt was impossible to close. With 3 different factory loads. I scrubbed the chamber and first part of the barrel with a bronze brush and all was well. I do think the can adds some carbon buildup at the chamber end. Went home and gave it a good scrubbing. Groups were typical same hole accuracy at 50 yards. Very nice setup.
