Hello All, I am a long time shooter but a new member to this site. Since you are so knowledgeable on these types of topics I though I would ask for some advice. My goal is to built a 200-250 yard deer hunting rifle in the 450 Bushmaster cartridge which is now legal in Southern Michigan. I bought a new Savage 12FV in 308 as the basis for this project. My intention is to buy a barrel from Apache Gun Works which will be a Green Mountain stainless steel 24" long with 1:16 twist in the heavy varmint contour. My question is if anyone can recommend a good gunsmith near me who can put this together. Any additional advice you can provide would be appreciated as well. Thanks.

Check with Adco Firearms in Sylvania, OH. They've done some barrel threading for me and their work is wonderful.

For a while, there was a fellow selling 450b barrels threaded for the Savage short action receivers. If you have the barrel nut wrench and a headspace gauge set, you can change calibers in a half an hour including dis and reassembly. I have two model 12s and 5 different caliber barrels between them. Two pieces of oak 2x4 from an old pallet and a hole saw are all you need to make a barrel block set that you can clamp in a vise.

There is a guy in Grand Blanc that builds 450's on Savages and sells them on Gun Broker. You can find him on there and call. He seems like a good guy

Hello,
I'm new to this forum but could not help but see your request for someone in Southeastern Michigan to build a 450 Bushmaster for you. I had one built last year on a Savage Axis action and am highly please with it for both looks and accuracy. The person who built it for me is a fellow named Norm Fox in Grand Blanc, Michigan. I don't know if he is still building them or not but you might drop him an email and ask. His email address is:

Good luck and good shooting.

Absolutely correct on both counts. Norm is a good guy.
