450 bushmaster build

I just received my barrel it took 4 months to get to me and the postal service took almost 2 weeks to deliver anyway I have a savage model 10 top bolt release in 308 ; removed the barrel cleaned everything had to open up the recoil lug it was at minum the barrel thread at max , anyway I dont have the gauges so reading all over the net I followed instruction to the T I think . I took a once fired case resized it with the hordany dies it measured 1.69 , screwed the barrel in until it touched the bolt face , placed the case in the chamber and tried closing bolt , no way it would close so screwed barrel out until it did a little at time . Once it closed I took some scotch tape it measured .01 built it up to 1.72 placed it in the barrel tried the bolt and it would not go half way (handle ). .After wards I took some live factory rounds and tried them one at time out of 6 rounds 5 of the 6 bolt was tight going down in full postion so does this mean I need more adjustment to increase the head space . Thanks

Welcome and sorry for missing this, but yea you need to back it off some.

I dont have gages but the last savage I did I popped the ejector out, went with your tape method but to 1.710, set barrel and tightened it up. 300+ rds later no issues.

Why not rent the appropriate gages? Its not expensive and is a much surer method of doing the job right.

Less pressure on the tape was my thinking. If using gages I wouldn't take it out.

Give Dave Manson @ Manson Reamer a call, not sure if shipping Canada is a problem all around or not, but he'd have gauges.
