Look for an update on 2 lever rifle builds in 450 Bushmaster.

I finally have everything necessary to send to a Savage 99 gunsmith specialist to install 450 Bushmaster barrels. Both Savage 99's are the 99C model which uses the external magazine and I have 284 Winchester Savage 99 mags for this project so feeding should not be an issue.

One will have an 18" barrel, a pistol grip stock, and a Schmidt & Bender 1.5 x 6 x 42 scope on it in QD rings. Back-up iron sights include a peep integral with the scope base and a conventional fold-down rear leaf sight.

The other will be a straight grip stock and a full mannlicher stock, a QD Swaro 1 x 6 Z6 scope, and the same redundant back-up irons as the above rifle.

I can't wait to get these back!

Considering a 460 S&W lever action has been out for 2-3 years, I'd venture you can reference those success stories for loading recipes. The 99's magazine will however, free you from soft or flat point bullet restrictions that the tubular lever actions suffer from.

I look forward to seeing your results and rest assured, when you're ready to post your first results, I'll create a Lever Action section for the ribbon cutting.

Thanks, Hoot,

The Savage 99 action locks up tight and for over 30 years has been delivering me excellent accuracy in .308 and .358. I am hoping for the same in 450 Bushmaster.

Time will tell how accurate these are going to be and fingers crossed.

There is no doubt though that these are going to be fast handling, easy carrying, lead delivery systems.

Piggys beware!

A little over a year ago, I inherited my Uncle Bill's 99 in 250-3000, which he bought when he mustered out of the Navy following WW II. It's got a lot of wear but is still a solid platform. I haven't shot it (yet). I may have to load up some 85-100 grainers and give it a last hurrah before retiring it to the back of the safe. I keep his picture on my bedroom wall as he was my favorite uncle on my Dad's side. He and my Aunt Betty couldn't have kids. He always slipped me a quarter when no one was looking, back when a quarter meant something to a kid.

Hoot,

What a great story. Heirloom guns bring great memories.

Enjoy shooting that sweetie.
