Maximum Velocity Info.....

Postby randyf » Tue Jan 03, 2012 3:27 pm

I'm just playing with some bullet weights and velocity to get some muzzle energy calculations..

Can someone give me the approximate "practical" muzzle velocity (fps) that these bullet weights can be pushed out of the .450 Bush?

225gr- 2423 for 2933 ft/lbs
250gr- 2200 for 2387 ft/lbs.
300gr- 1907 for 2423 ft/lbs

Haven't tested higher wieghts, all my bullets are moly coated. all were not max velocity but best groups.

I've been working on a load using 230Grain FMJs. Here is some data so far.

NOTE! Not all FMJs are designed for speeds above 1700FPS! Don't use plated jackets like Berry or Rainier. I'm using MagTechs. Hornadys' FMJs are okay to go too. Especially S'more smuggler WCs' favorite, the Hornady 230 Gr FMJ Flat point.

S'more Smuggler?? Why I heard that the only reason we have so much human smuggling into Texas, was because they had heard about the great S'mores you make..

10-4, on using good 230's, at the speeds you can drive them at, you're going to need good'ens.

I drive mine in excess of 2800fps. Speeds that will destroy ill made jackets/plating and maybe leave deposits in the barrel that can wreck your next shot, hopefully that's the only thing that gets wrecked, if not caught right away..

Your confusing S'mores with Smurf smuggling.... And that's an export operation in an attempt to disorient the drug cartels.
