For the reloaders on the forum. I have been looking at bullet selection for the .450 and considering that we are using a .451" pistol cartridge bullet as opposed to a .458" rifle bullet, how are y'all getting along with the relatively flat nosed bullet designs that are the norm in regards to chambering the rounds? Any failures to feed or any other issues?

Using the supplied magazine from Bushmaster, the empty case nearly feeds on its own. So flatnose is not problem.

Good to know. I do wish there were more options as far as bullets with decent B.C. Maybe I haven't looked hard enough.

Hornady offers several different options in .452 pistol bullets. also the fxt .452 in rifle bullet

Hornady's Handbook of Cartridge Reloading, Eight Edition, lists three bullets for the Bushmaster 450:

#45220 XTP/Mag 240 grain
#45201 FTX 250 grain
#45235 XTP/Mag 300 grain

Additionally, there is a lot of information on the forum about loading #44218 FTX 225 grain, which Hornady specifies for the 45 Colt Rifle. I called Hornady about this; they do not recommend it, but given the comments on this board, I would not hesitate to load it and will be doing so shortly. I would personally be hesitant about straying too far afield, unless you are an experienced reloader who understands the direction in which you are going with bullet selection. Many on this board are in this category. I am not there (yet).

I've shot a bunch of 300gr XTP mags and the 325gr Barnes Busters with no issues feeding in factory mags, Sig mags, or modified Magpuls.

My 450 goal so far is just a 100yd bear and pig hammer, but someday we may go for something farther

I know what you mean, but then again, if we had a .500BC, we'd have a 300 magnum. All you need is the stuff to measure the range accurately (Lasers?) and then be able to adjust the sights. When you get to those ranges, you've got enough residual "umph" left on the bullet to decide absolutely any issue, wherein the 300 might not. In fact the last two deer I shot with a 300H&H , both at about 2-250yds, one ran 75 yds., the other ran 75yds to the fence, jumped over that fence and then ran an additional 75yds in the Forrest, both had the top of their hearts ripped off and both legs completely shot out from under them. This is something we'll never see with the 450b at any BC..

Unless you plan to resize, the .458 cal is not usable. .451-.452 bullets are the norm. We do have guys resizing the .458 Down to .452".
Hornady makes a 230 grain flat tip FMJ that I am extremely interested in but I can't find them anywhere in stock.
