Tested the new Barnes 275 gr. XPB bullet. Load was 33 gr. Enforcer with CCI Mag. small rifle primers. Shot thru a dry 1 1/4 phone book and 4 one gallon milk jugs full of water. Recovered bullet in 5 th jug. THE BULLET STILL WEIGHTED 275 GR. and was 7/8 inch in diameter!!!!------- I tried 33.5 gr. Enf. today. With Fed 205M primers- 3 shots 3/4 in. at 100 yds. With CCI Mag. primers 3 shots 1 1/2 in. I'll try to get a picture posted of the bullet. It was perfect!!!!

That's what this round can do when you hit the "sweet spot" for a given load...good work, and great info, man!! I don't think I've heard of anyone else using Enforcer in the 450b...that's another good thing to know. I've thought that the 275g XPB would be a kick-butt load in the 450b, and it sounds like you've found one that meets that description! Keep us posted on the new load(s)... :)

You might want to use the forum search function here regarding the Barnes 275 XPBs...there's been previous load workups done you could try out...Hoot here is working on some as we speak, last I heard.

Welcome to the electronic campfire, too, by the way...new faces are always welcome.

commander faschisto-

Enforcer powder is on Hornady's lists of loads for the 450B, both the original handwritten copies and the more recent ones. Check the knowledge base in this forum for the loads.

I reported some results with Enforcer and lighter bullets in a couple of threads in July 2011:

3200 fps with 160s: Need for Speed Part C

Testing another 160: Need for Speed Part D

Almost simultaneously with myself, rohk posted his results with 160s and Enforcer. See his post of July 10 in this thread: load development

I have further work planned for light bullets with this powder, and I hope to get to it soon.

Allan, what COL did you seat the 275s to and what kind of crimp did you employ and to what degree. IE Taper crimp to .476

QuickLoad, which can be hit or miss with this caliber says Enforcer is awfully fast for that bullet weight. More appropriate to the light stuff others have mentioned. QL says your bullets were running around 2100 fps. Again, it is more often wrong than right with the 450b outside the factory load components. That is, until you calibrate to your first results. Then it tracks very well for predicting what to expect when you vary those components. Aside from Lil Gun and the 250 FTX, the only other powder I've gotten uncalibrated predictions that were right, was with Vihtavuori N110. Some other combinations are close without requiring too much fiddling, but rarely right,so you may have gotten a different velocity than predicted for what that's worth.

From my experience with the 275s, they are incredibly forgiving with different loads, most producing excellent groups. Both the 200s and the 275 XPBs shoot very well, but for what they cost, they ought to. ;)

Hoot to finally answer your question---- COL is 2.290" Used a side crimp about ,050 wide and .070 back from front of case to front of crimp. I modified a LEE 45-70 side crimp die as explained on this forum. Many thinks on the side crimp info.
