I ran into the same issue with the 250gr Deep curls being larger in dia. I didnt relize it until in the field and got one stuck that wasnt a good thing. Checked them all when i got home and found 4 out of 12 larger but it seams to be just in one cross section area. Anyway here would be the results of putting 40grns of lilgun behind a 250gr Deep Curl and sending it 120yds through the rib section (clipping a rib) and lodging just under the hide. No exit on this one. 1 pic is graphic.

That’s about how I would expect they would perform. I am not going to discount these bullets yet. I now have a Lee resize her and I can run these bullets through the .452 Sizer and then down to the .451 Sizer. Just for good measure. I’m going to reload with 39-40.0 grains of Lil Gun and retest. Nice pics by the way.

First post on this forum.
I tested these 250gr DeepCurls in my 16in AR BM, H110 gave me ~2230fps with this projectile. Seated to mid-cannelure, OAL is 2.035.
Sounds good, but that velocity I think is too much for this bullet. I shot into some ballistic gel from 20yds and bullet penetrated less than 10in, and came apart explosively. The impact into the gel was impressive.

I have no issues with feeding these bullets so far, but I am not doing mag dumps. Accuracy is good to 100yds ~1moa, my rifle is setup for night hunting. Has a few kills under it, devastating on hogs, none required a followup shot.

I have a slow mo vid of the gel being shot if any are interested, I will see if I can post it.

Tx SD,

Here is the link to the vid. It is only accessible thru this link.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/12n8Lnp ... sp=sharing

Each block of gel is 16in. The impact of the DeepCurl is impressive.

Just for comparison, I shot a 250gr Hornady FTX into the same setup. It penetrated ~25in and retained 195gr of weight. MV is same as the DeepCurl.

Used one on a doe (using muzzeloader) here's my report. .452 deep curl loaded in sabot, estimated muzzle velocity, 1600fps. Bullet hit--50 yds-- square in boiler room, double lung and pass through. Hit a 4inch tree and nearly exited, so penetration great. Expansion shown on exit but maybe 3/4 inch, a lot of damage. The thing that surprised me was after skinning her out, the bloodshot rib "circle" was 8 inches at least.

Hope you have some on hand, its doubtful they are accessible in 2022; my thoughts: they are very effective even and modest velocities and I would guess that impact velocities above 1800fps would open up the hollow point. I think they may be even more damaging than an xtp non mag.

I have read a lot of threads in the black powder websites and I am of the opinion that while its interesting to compare bullets, as long as you use a sighted in bullet with a flat meplat lead, or recommended ftx, even 45 colt stuff, they'lll kill deer. Folks who complain they lost a lot of meat, should avoid the shoulder.
