I finally caught one this year. 75 yards. High shoulder shot. Took out the bottom of the spine. Back end dropped then dumped on his chin. Never fell over or kicked. Lights out. 8 other deer within 20-30 yards looked around and went back to eating. Never ran. 250 bonded shockwave wave at 2580 FPS

Texas Sheep dog,
I just got back (Friday) from cronographing my 450BM reloads using the two fallowing loadings:
Load #1
39.0 grains of Hodgdon Lil'Gun
CCI 450 magnum SM/RFL primers
.452" 245 grain Hornady Interlocks
COAL 2.290
Used LFCD to put minimum crimp on brass
Previously bought new Starline brass on second firing
Rifle is a bought new CVA Cascade 22" barrel with a 1:24 ROT
Load #2
39.5 grains of Hodgdon Lil'Gun
CCI 450 magnum SM/RFL primers
.452" 245 grain Hornady Interlocks
COAL 2.290
Used LFCD to put minimum crimp on brass
Previously bought new Starline brass on second firing
Rifle is a bought new CVA Cascade 22" barrel with a 1:24 ROT

In both loadings not a single round cronographed below 2450fps/MV. I used factory ammo to ensure the chronograph was set up and working before shooting over 30 of my reloads and never got an error message while shooting my reloads and never had a reading from the chronograph that was even close to different form the others as to be considered an obvious error.
All the factory ammo cronographed very very close to the factory advertised 2200fps/mv so based on that I feel safe in saying my chronograph was giving accurate readings.

I closely examined my bolt face, primers, and all fired brass and saw no signs of pressure and I never experience a bolt lift that required anything but minimal force to lift and cycle.

I should add my loadings using 40.5 and 41.0 turned in MV's of between 2550 and 2600fps/mv using the same loading as above

Any idea as to why my loadings had a significantly higher MV than yours?

Mainly the five grain difference in weight on the bullet. It’s a completely different bullet. Also, smokeless powder varies from lot to lot. Also, twist rates may be different. Barrel length may be different. All chambers are different. And most importantly, you’re shooting a bolt action where all the gas is used to propel the bullet whereas in my bench tests, I was using an AR 15 platform where the gas impingement system uses some of that pressure to cycle the bolt carrier group. This causes a small sacrifice in feet per second.

Pretty much what the Dawg said, closed breech and barrel length.

My 250gr FTX loads pretty much same velocity from a 22" as your getting.
