Off to range to check reloads this morning.

I'll be going to range to chrono and check groups of 200gr XPB's today. I had a SD of 7.0 with 37.4gr of Lil-Gun last time out with CVA Scout. I loaded up three loads 37.3gr, 37.4gr and 37.5gr to see if I can get better SD or groups. Will post the results.

I went to the range and found out that you can't go by avg. or SD to work up 200gr XPB loads for 450BM. My avg. FPS was lower than before as well as SD much higher than before with same load. I've been loading up more rounds to strictly use targets to find most accurate load. I also shot some 240 XTP Mags with decent group of 1-1/2"at 100yds but 8" group at 185yds. I think that I'll be hunting with the 200gr or 275gr XPB's as I have one spot that would be a 200yd shot and they are more aerodynamic than the XTP Mags.

Yeah, many have seen that low S.D. doesn't lead to accuracy in the 450B. IF I were you, I would try to figure out an average velocity. Main reason is that the 200 XPB has a low b.c., and a pretty high minimum expansion velocity (1800 fps). Usually over a 100yds won't give you expansion, or much of it, unless your really pushing them. You could always calculate for velocity on the lower end of what you're seeing, just to be safe. If you're aiming for 200yds, I suggest sticking to the 275 TSX, if you can. If you can't, well, you're still punching a 45 caliber projectile through the animal. So not too bad.

I was back at the range today to find a load for the 200gr XPB bullets out of my CVA Scout rifle. I had been blowing unburnt powder out the barrel along with a drop in velocity using Lil-Gun. I found a happy medium with a muzzle velocity of 2583 FPS. That was just before velocity drop off. I also checked velocity of 275gr XPB bullets and had a muzzle velocity of 2385 FPS.
I ordered two boxes of the new Hornady 245gr SP IL bullets. I only wish they would have a cannalure. I contacted Hornady to find out what they recommend as max velocity for these bullets. They responded with 2500 FPS as max. I'll report back what I find with the new bullets.

The 200gr XPB, loaded to 2500 fps (Max AR velocity) will expand just fine out to 150 yds. Beyond that, make sure you put your shot on the shoulder and you'll be fine.

That’s interesting. I’ve heard Lilgun plateau in 16” barrels a few times, but figured a longer barrel, especially the cva, would make use of it.
