I have a non windowed magazine so I’ll be putting it in the first band. Thanks for clearing that up. Now if I can just get an idea of using powder load range. 33 to 35 for lil gun sound right? And what range for H110?

I would have ventured 34-36 Lil Gun at 2.18 COL. Watching for pressure signs = case head growth (CHG), you might be able to noodle a little above 36gr. If you have a micrometer, take it to the range with you. measure a few case diameters for their widest spot, shoot the rounds and remeasure. If that widest spot jumps more than .001 after shooting, you're done going any higher. Wildcatter would push that sometimes to .0015 but .001 is a good rule of thumb, unless you have as loosey goosey chamber. It will falsely indicate excessive CHG even with moderate loads. I know because I had one. Chambered and ejected just about anything I fed it but the CHG was sometimes alarming where other members, using the same make and model upper, had less CHG for the same load, same COL, same crimp, etc. It was one of the reasons I got rid of that barrel. I actually miss it sometimes to this day.

With H110, figure on a grain higher charge weight from my experience. Having a hot primer is essential with H110.

Got a chance to do some target practice today. Used the 275 grain xpb with 33, 33.5, and 34 grains of lil gun with the oal at 2.225”. From a bench rest (first time I have shot from a bench and it is so much easier on the shoulder) and 33.5 grains I ended up with a three shot group with center of impact at the widest spread at about 3/4”. I recovered one round, I was shooting at steel targets at 80 yard, and was impressed that it held together and the size. It lost a lot of weight and was almost completely flat. Narrowest was 0.877” and widest was 1.257”. 250 grain FTX at 38 grains of lil gun produced 1 1/2” 5 round group. It was also fun watching a 2” gong spin 3 times around its support after hitting it.

Glad they worked out for you. I run the 275 TSX, which is VERY similar, the results on game are amazing.

offrink,
I also load 275gr XPB bullets and shoot them out of my CVA scout. I use H110 powder as suggested here with the 275 bullets. I side crimp into the driving band closest to the base of the bullets and taper crimp the case just behind the first driving band. I'm getting 2385 FPS and MOA with my loads.

I got to thinking, bad idea I know, will I need to shoot through the shoulder to have good expansion or will a standard broadside (ribs just behind the shoulder) shot going to allow expansion? I expect pass through either way.

Well, I shoot the 275 TSX which is very similar, but not identical. That bullet opens FAST without hitting bone. I would expect the same from the 275 XPB.

Agree with BMT, they seem to open fast, so pick your mark and let fly ! :)

Thanks. I got a little worried when I thought about the construction of the bullet. They are pretty tough and really didn’t want to make a poor choice.

200gr Barnes from a frontal chest shot 120ish yds, found in rear ham. Never hit any heavy bone, just the brisket going in.

I just thought about it, I’ll have to get a pic of the entrance wound on my bear rug. You can make out all the petals from the Barnes bullet. So basically instant opening.
