buddy of mine with the bca 18" got ahold of a box of the factory ammo when he was up north over the weekend enjoying having his Hybrid 46 out of NFA jail finally.


with the mid length gas system on that barrel, even with his suppressor on - hornady factory sub ammo did not cycle for him.


anyone tried any other subs in that config? he said they were stupid quiet, but without the cycle ... kinda takes the fun away without at least a side charger.

Academy in Pensacola had about 30bxs on the shelf yesterday. They were priced at $31.50ea.
Almost got a couple bxs just to try out of my 25" CVA.
My usage would be for the bigger hogs. --- SAWMAN

Got 5 bxs.
Will shoot them in my CVA single shot. (NOW 16.5" WITH BRAKE.)

I have always wondered about this ammo, if it would cycle an AR action safely. We know it should work in bolt/single shot actions.

Another thought was if this was on purpose, your friend said it was quiet, but would it be as quiet if it cycled the action?

Will wait for more feedback before I try this type ammo.

Kinda ironic wen you think about it. My experience has been that ammo manufacturers always over-predict the velocity of their products. At least the few I've chrony'd. In the case of subsonic ammo, that's a good thing. You certainly don't buy subsonic ammo only to have it go faster than the speed of sound. Bore conditions can have an effect on final velocity.

FWIW Just back from the range trying this ammo.

Rifle is a RAR 16" barrel. Shot off of a bipod @100 yards accuracy was good, right around an inch (was shooting steel so no actual measurement) very low report and recoil was negligible. 74 degrees, 46% humidity @ appr 1000 ft asl. Scope was zeroed at 100 using Hornady Custom 250gr FTX ammo, this ammo hit 6mils low.

Anybody could live with that "6mils low" if they had target turrets.
Would love to have some bullets to load up to about 1350-1400 in my single shot.

EDIT - -> Just realized your talkin over 21 inches at 100yds. Bullets for reloading will be a MUST for me. The hold over would be darn near impossible and clickin' would be a PITA. ---S

Yeah it would be difficult to use both super and subs without dialing, I was using Vortex's EBR-1 in (obviously) mil/mil which made the exercise doable anyway.
