275 grain TSX vs 275 grain XPB

Does anyone know the difference between the Barnes 275 grain .451" diameter TSX with the 2 bands and the 275 grain .451" diameter XPB with the 3 bands? Is the XPB (for 460 S&W) designed to expand at lower velocities than the TSX? My friend has shot a couple deer with the 275 XPB, one at very close range, and said they work great at 450 velocities. Just wondering if anyone knew what the difference was. Common sense would dictate that the XPB would be designed to expand at lower velocities that the TSX, but I will lean on the knowledge base here for your opinions.

I seem to recall someone here reported reading that quite to the contrary, the TSX opens more reliably at lower velocities (by design) than the XPB.

From my experience, the XPB, shot into sequential gallon milk jugs filled with water, open up pretty well down to around 1800 fps.

Hoot-
I sent an email to Barnes Bullets and they said " The .451” 275gr TSX is for the 450 Bushmaster and requires at least 1200 fps to expand.
The .451” 275 XPB is for the 460 S&W and requires at least 1400 fps to expand."

You were correct. Thank you.
Now if I could only get some of those TSX's to try I might actually get somewhere.

I had read somewhere where you can order direct from Barnes at MSRP, whether they have stock or not is anyone's guess. Maybe contact the guy who gave you the info and see when they will be running more.

Fury Bullets is between us in Croswell, Dennis make some very accurate bullets. I've been gonna rattle his cage on a bonded or hardcore 200gr .400 bullet, probably could whip something up for a 450 without breaking the bank.

Hey Alan, why go .400? Just curious.
