New to the 450 Bushmaster world...Can any of these Bullets be used in 450 Bushmaser?

I have:

Hornady 45 CAL 230gr FMJ-RN

X-Treme Bullets 45 Cal 200gr RN Copper Plated

Berry's 45 Cal 230gr RN (I'm guessing these are copper plated also)

I believe the copper plated bullets have a max velocity around 1500-1600fps from reading and even then that is pushing it.

I Have been using Winchester 296 to load 450 Bushmaster(using Honady XTPMag 240gr that I'm out of). If you can load these what would be a good starting point with this powder?

Thanks!

are you trying to use them in an AR or a bolt/single shot gun?

I have an AR....It would be good if the action worked but not necessary for plinking these rounds.

You can definitely run the Hornady 230gr FMJ. Don't try it w/o working up a load for your gun, but 43gr of LilGun makes them scream! They work great in my Bushmaster 16" upper.

How about using Winchester 296?

It's a tad slow for the 230 FMJ bullets but not by much. Have at it. I found it was a good choice for 300gr bullets. If you didn't already know this, its just like Hodgdon H110 in density and energy content. Start at 39gr, a hot primer, a COL of 2.05 and work up in half grain increments.

Thanks for the info hoot! I would like to find some Lil Gun but trying to find that is almost impossible... what do you recommend for primers?

While I'm a devoted fan of Remington 7 1/2 primers, they're even more hard to find than Lil Gun these days. A close second is CCI 450's. I have read that Tula magnum primers are good also. I never worried about hardness of primers in my AR platforms. Never had as much as a deep imprint after chambering so I can't say what all that fuss is about. In the absence of above, Winchester SRP are good also and Federal Match primers aren't too shabby either. Other than the Tula's, I've tried the rest and any of them will get the job done.
