250 Hdy monoflex

Postby deadeer » Mon Mar 29, 2021 9:21 pm

How about posting up some loads that have been tried with the 250 mono? I havent found much yet. Seeing as how the bearing length is so long, loads will have to be lower than the 250ftx. It's got to be about the same length as the 300sst/ftx. I havent looked for loads for the 300 either. I have H110, LilGun, AA1680, CFE Blk, H4227, N110, N120, and H4198 to work with in this burn range. I am gonna keep up with copper cleaning and shot count on this barrel. These are going thru the Encore barrel only.

Finally got to testing the 250 monoflex. My barrel is a 20" MGM Encore. Like has been common on my other MGM's, it must be very tight because I dont need near as high of charge to get velocities of other guns.

Being little load data available, I started at 30gr Lil Gun. I seated the bullets out to 2.435" which is .015 off the lands in my gun. I got vertical stringing of 4-5", and was swearing I was getting a slight hangfire. I went up to 35gr. Accuracy got a little better, but pressure signs on the Winchester small rifle primer was getting bad after 33gr and recoil was getting brutal. I with the long oal, there was still room for more powder, but that wasnt working. So I tried closing up the space by seating the bullet deeper to 2.250". First 3 shots in same hole, no delay, and recoil manageable. The load has repeated several times, so I am gonna call it done for this season.

For comparison, I shot a friends Ruger Ranch up to 37gr Lil Gun with no pressure signs and one hole accuracy.

Not yet unfortunately. Was watching for pressure signs and then accuracy. Now that I am dialed in, will clock them this week and report back.

Using the 20" Encore in 450bm this weekend for our Indiana gun opener. Shooting 33.5gr Lilgun, WSR primer, at 2.25" oal and the 250 Monoflex at 2,001fps. Its 2" high at 100, 1" low at 150, and 6" low at 200. Not a barn burner, but good in the woods. Its accurate as all get out too. The expanded bullets are a clone to Barnes 250tez. Should be a good stopper.

Schweet!

I assume that was shot into multiple jugs of water?

These bullets work as expected. I took 2 does, one at 75yd and other at 160yd. Typical Barnes-like performance. A completely shattered spine, and a broken neck, needless to say, no tracking. Happy with the results, and enough bullets left to last meforever in the woods.
