Got about 400 Hornady .451",185gr HP's (not the XTP's) coming from a friend.
Will use those at moderate vels,to sight in different loads and just might try them on hogs. Unknown their jacket thickness, expansion rate, etc.
I'm sure these were intended for the 45ACP and moderate loads in the 45LC. --- SAWMAN

MOOSE EARS wrote:You pics are blurry on my end, but those are good bullets for the 450BM. They really scream with 43gr of LilGun! The load is safe in my rifle but as always, work it up in your own before jumping in...

The video link is much better. And yes. Definitely work up slow. I’ve settled on between 40.0 Gr of Lil Gun for the bolt action and single shot and 41.5 gr of Lil Gun for my AR.

230 FMJ ??
Wondering about what the lighter HP type bullets,at the lesser vels will do.
I have some Lehigh 135's. How about loading the backwards at about 1800-2000. --- SAWMAN

Obviously my above mentioned 185's (NOT XTP's) were ment for 45ACP or possibly 45LC.
What are your thoughts about loading them to about 1800-2000fps. ( Also have a bunch of 200gr Hornady FTX)
Usage - - -> hogs at night, with thermal. Shots to be <150yds from my CVA HUNTER. Not worried about meat damage.
Any inputs will be appreciated. --- SAWMAN

If those bullets have the exposed lead in the tip they expand easily. The XTP was developed to better control expansion. If those hold together at that velocity and reach the target I wouldn't be surprised if they explode upon impact with tough skin. You certainly wouldn't get much penetration. I wouldn't personally consider them for use for hunting at all.

I think our guys have experimented sufficiently with the 185 grain (and other lightweight bullets below 200 grains), projectiles and shown me at least that performance is not reliable enough for me personally to pursue the lightweights lighter than 200 grains. I’m not going to invest further into this side of the spectrum of bullets unless someone pulls a
rabbit out of their hat.

But y’all go on ahead and have at it.
I’ve got a jug of milk and plenty of popcorn.
Who knows? Maybe someone will find the
magic combination and unlock it.

ME --> I believe that most any bullet is worth even a "light" discussion if it fits the needs (or only the wants) of the individual reloader/shooter.
In my considerable years at the reloading bench I have expieramented (tinkered) with tons of variables in bullets, powders, brass, pressures, vels, etc, etc. I have learned something from every session at the bench. (Even the 300gr @ 3000fps from my Lott and really close to 4500fps from my Swift. + others )
Now that I am older and not high speed- low drag anymore,I cannot take as much recoil as even 10 years ago.
I tend to use alot or Trail Boss and H4895 reduced losds nowadays.. I do not own a surpressor but do like to shoot some chamberings just above sub to 1400fps or so. The H4895 formula comes in handy for this if you have access to a chronograph.
The 450B with its larg(er) bore and WIDE VARIETY of bullet weights, using the single shot platform is a match made in heaven FOR ME. I say - - -> do not limit yourself to the AR platform when there are endless possibilities out there using a bolt gun (mag length ??) or BETTER STILL . . . a single shot. --- SAWMAN
