IMO a usable sabot would have a metal gas check on the base that is longer in length than the gas hole diameter. It would be an interesting project to be able to shoot 35 caliber bullets, 375's. 40's. ect. However, it is doubtful that the pressures would be high enough to function the AR action. The muzzloader smokeless crowd is running some pretty big charges of smokeless. I have seen up to 60 grains of Little Gun on posts.
Unless I'm missing something, I don't think 2zero6 is suggesting to shoot these with the sabots on. These are .452" dia bullets and the reports I get are, that they shoot like a house on fire. My self, I think I'd put in a grove for our side crimp, might not be nessessary because they look like they have a great crimping area already. BTW, we should start to think about standardizing the crimp location, width, depth, etc. for the side crimp. Mine currently is very thin and fairly close to the case mouth, say about .125" Everything, everyone has done to date, has worked great, so if we were to standardize it we could get Lee to run us a batch???
And BTW, welcome to the club 2zero6, the knowledge here will be of great value to you, to say nothing of all the goodies you have running around in your head, that will be of great value to us, and already has...I like the Trophy Room idea. I wouldn't be surprised if the Mad Mud Bugger doesn' jump all over that one..
And BTW-II, have you caught up on all the reading at Calguns, where we all here contributed to, before the MB got us squared away?
