Which of these CVA 450BM rifles' and why?

Postby RBDMTJager » Fri Jul 01, 2022 2:54 pm

Looking to buy two 450 Bushmaster rifles' for my sons to hunt with (before anyone asks, no recoil is NOT a factor for them) and have narrowed it down to one of the fallowing platforms:

Most affordable platform:
CVA Hunter Rifle <$350 OTD
Best reviewed of the bolt gun platforms in my budget:
CVA Cascade >$600 OTD

I know there are other platforms but The most affordable of them is a single shot brake breach made by CVA and the RAR and Savage bolt guns prices were so close
(+/- $100) to the cost of the CVA Cascade and thus far my research of the bolt guns under $700 the CVA Cascade was the clear winner VS either the Savage or RAR.

So I would like to here from owners of CVA single shots and CVA Cascades' what they think like & dislike and would they buy them again.
Lastly anyone have a different rifle to suggest under $700 please by all means suggest it, but please include your reasons as to why I should (or you did) buy it VS other offerings, especially if you considered the two CVA rifles I'm considering but chose not to buy in favor of the rifle you did buy.

Once again, welcome to our electronic campfire. I’ll just pull up a stump and watch the responses here.

Ya, I just built an AR 450 so this should be interesting.

Well, my daughters CVA Cascade in 350 legend shoots 1.5" groups at 100 yards, if that helps any.

Well after MUCH (actually to much) research and waffling back and forth about which rifle, I ordered a CVA Cascade in 450 Bushmaster, should be at my LGS Monday.
Already bought a good supply of Starline brass (ONLY new 450BM brass I could find in stock) along with Horandy 245 Interlocks, 200grn FTX's RCBS dies and 5lbs of LIl Gun and two spare factory mags.
Already have all the primers I'll ever need. Already have my choice of a Bushnell 3-9 or 4-12 4200, Leupold VariX-II 3-9 or 4-12 to scope it with along with Warne horizontally split rings and a one piece base. I plan on bedding the scope to the bottom rings.

To be 100% honest the Cascade was more than I wanted to spend on a sub 300 yard deer rifle, but my only other choices in bolt rifles in my price range were a Savage 110 Apex or a Ruger Ranch rifle. I gave both the Ruger and the Savage a good looking over and found their stocks to be much more flimsy than the CVA's and I sincerely felt the CVA over all better quality was worth the the extra $125.

I could have gone minimalist and bought a CVA Hunter, Scout or V2. But after deer hunting with a NEF 920 cost me the biggest buck I ever saw while hunting (that was almost 25 deer seasons ago and that incident STILL pains me to this day) in over 30 years, I vowed to never hunt with a single shot rifle unless it was an ML.

Have down loaded all the reloading data I can find for the 450BM with Lil Gun and my chosen bullet weights. Once I get the rifle to the range will post my results.
I chose the 450BM because 12ga sabot ammo went from $10-$13 a box of 5 last I bought it to $22-$25 a box of 5 and i can reload 450BM much cheaper than that.

I Paid for it all with a combo of Cabela's and Discover card $$$ back points.

Looking forward to doing load development and shooting it.

I don’t know how big your sons are, but my daughter isn’t very big (yes, she’s an adult) and she prefers a bantam-sized stock. So I have the piece removed from her Cascade and she really likes the 13” pull. My deer rifle is the Ruger with GoWild camo in 450 B. But the stock doesn’t fit her, so I went looking. Now, I really love my Ruger, but after shooting that Cascade…
