Since the 6.5G is supposed to have one of the most efficient combustion chambers ever designed as a case, I believe you could get away with not having a forward assist, especially if it's going to be a bench-rest shooter.
If you prefer to ease the round into battery as quietly as possible, as for hunting purposes, then a forward assist is supposed to help with that.
I always recommend the dust cover for a AR hunting rifle.

This rifle is going to be used mainly for hunting. So I guess I had better move towards the forward assist and the dust cover. But I still do love the look of those slick side uppers.
