IMR 4198 & H4198

Postby pwee223 » Sat Sep 05, 2020 12:55 pm

If the burn rate are the same what is the Difference? I have a pound of IMR 4198 I would like to use in my 450 with 300 gr HP's.

Thank you in advance, with your help.

back in my 45-70 days I used them interchangeable.

Can't see getting enough into a 450 case to have any troubles.

Those two powdders are slower than AA1680 which is already on the slow side for this caliber. So, expect low velocities and some unburned powder coming out the muzzle. You'll probably see case sooting as well.

In Theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In Practice, there is.

If you look at rounds that have data for both, like 223, they are not the same. IMR operates at a significantly higher pressure. The cut is also different.
