In Theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In Practice, there is.

my go to load, 45gr 1680. I'll have to check on OAL, but taper crimp just under the cannuler. No clue on speed but 1680 has been the most accurate with that bullet in my guns.

45 grains is several grains above book max, so please test carefully by working up to that charge in your own firearm before using this load.

i'm not saying its NOT safe, just that someone would need to verify IN THEIR FIREARM that before just loading it up and sending it, especially someone new to reloading.

i would highly suggest to the OP to pickup a copy of hornady 10th edition, as there's data available for that bullet with 1680 in there.

yeah Plant I should've noted that even with 1680 being a very forgiving powder.

If I recall (been a pet load for a few long years now) I started at book and the more I went up the tighter the groups got. I really need to chrono it sometime.

ya.. just looking out for someone who's an admitted newbie to reloading is all, and god forbid people who google search and hit this link who are in the same boat

Plant_one Thanks for the information. I'm probably the inexperienced reloaded your talking about. I've done my share but mostly 44 , 357 and a couple varmint loads for my 223. I'll keep your ideas in mind.

The Ruger ranch rifle is a one and 16 twist. I would be extremely cautious with a powder charge that potent in a 1:16 twist barrel with a 300 grain pill. To be honest, I just wouldn’t do it in a 1:16 twist. The best advice I’ve seen is get the Hornady manual #10 and start there and work up very slowly.

What powders do you have to work with?
