There are some things I did not like about NV scopes that I tried. Maybe ruined by the fact that I get to shoot the $30K to $50K thermal, IR optics here and there...FLIR is the bomb. But I don't want to spend the the requisite thousands for a decent one. So, I made my own "poor mans" NV optical set-up.
Consisted of one of these:

http://www.bushnell.com/hunting/outdoor ... h-2-x-24mmI swapped out the laser unit to one of these:
http://www.burrisoptics.com/ardbal.html but the CTC unit works fine.
I made a rail mount that accepts the tripod mount for the Bushnell. Basically, for about $400, you can get a system that, performance wise, rivals the $1000 to $1500 NV scopes. The monocular I got is 2x, but you can get other mags as well.
