while i get where hoot is coming from on the lightweight 270 thing (my sister in law has one on a synthetic stock and that thing can really start to beat u up after a couple boxes & you better hold on to it right or it'll teach you to quick. free recoiling one like BR guys do with their 15-20 lb guns i wouldnt recomend hah!) i dont think it'll be that much of an issue with your pump in 35 rem - even if you had to remove the recoil pad for LOP reasons.
neat fine, and great resto project though!
ive got its great grandchild - a 7600 pump in 30-06 that i bought when i started deer hunting and we have a 35 rem lever gun in the family. my 7600 dont have a recoil pad and i find its quite manageable even when you're 4-5 boxes into a range session with it.
two whole different types of recoil - the 35 is more of a push compared to something like a '06 or a 270 is more of a snap - as my uncle can attest to when he borrowed my dads 30-06 to hunt our big 25 acre field one day instead of his 35 rem. worst scope bite i've ever witnessed. he corked himself right on the bridge of his nose and put a nice cut right in his eyebrow. Broke his nose. looked like he was in a bar fight and got his eye dotted. he ended up with two black eyes for about a week - we called him uncle racoon heh. he actually tried to apologize to my dad for bleedin on his gun
he did manage to score a double and put two does on the ground with one shot though. so that may have had something to do with him getting corked like he did - too busy worrying about getting a twofer!
he still wont shoot that 30-06 to this day though
