I purchased a solid birch stock from Boyds last year for my RAR 450 BM. I had to open up the action screw holes slightly to be able to install V3 Precision pillars under the V-blocks. I was shooting some rounds with 300gr Hornady XTP Mag bullets recently over my chronograph. I wanted to stay at or below the Hornady recommended 2200 FPS for that bullet. I hit that speed after 10 rounds being fired. I cleaned the receiver, chamber and barrel and put it in safe. It was in there a couple weeks before I got it out to clean the outside of the rifle. When I removed the action from the stock I noticed what looked like sawdust on the underside of the action. Upon closer inspection I found that the bedded rear V-block had come loose. There were also cracks in the stock behind and on both sides of both action screws where the wood was inlet for the magazine and the trigger. I don't know for sure if it was the 300gr bullets that caused the cracking or it happened over time. It sent a chill down my spine as I realized that I came very close to being injured or possibly killed from action/scope hitting me in face/head. If you have a Boyds stock, I highly recommend that you keep an eye on your stock for cracks by the action screw holes.
