I need a new scope. I thought I wanted a 2-7 power because:
1) 2 power is wider field for close shots- if I see edible venison at 25 yards, I harvest it.
2) 7 power is (probably) enough. Maybe? I’m not a long distance shooter- longest hunting shot to date is 150 yards. (.50 cal muzzleloader with a 4 power scope and a shooting stick)
But 3-9 is far more popular, therefore easier to get, and available in more kinds and makes. A 2-7 is usually x33ish and a 3-9 is usually x40ish, so maybe brighter? Is 3 power ok for those closer shots? Recommendations?
It’s going on an AR, so it’ll be mounted a bit higher than on a rifle with drop at the comb. A bit more eye relief is good to reduce the chance of scope bite. I like optical scopes, and I’m not wild about red dot or any battery-operated sights. My favorite scope ever is a Redfield Widefield 1 3/4 -5 mounted in my .30-06.
