Well, what brass and primer are you using? These are HOT loads some of us try, and every rifle is different. I don’t have a RAR, but I have multiple uppers, and each one is different. If I ran the 275 TSX load from my Bushmaster upper in my Tromix upper, it would probably blow it up. If your rifle can’t handle it, oh well. Run that load or try something else.

IMHO, Lilgun is at the edge of being a good useable powder for the 275 Barnes bullets. You might want to go to something slower.

I'd try H110/296 or 300MP, maybe even 1680, seat them out 2.410ish

Thanks guys for your advice, I’m using Remington 7 1/2 primers and Hornady once fired factory brass. Of the powders mentioned what one would you recommend. I like to have one that’s not temperature sensitive.

I dont think any I listed fall into that. But I never had a failure to go bang at 5* with 300MP or 1680.

Hello again. Thanks for your help with reload data for the 275gr TSX in the ruger ranch, I found out that I couldn't take it to Canada because the barrel was under 18 inches and traded it in on a ruger go wild American with a 22 inch barrel. Found out that I could get the same velocity, (2,200 fps) as with the ranch with 2 grains less powder, and so dropped back to 40 grains of h110 from the 42 grains I was loading (col 2.35). I have a similar question about a ruger #1 in 460 s&w with a 20 inch barrel. I am loading the Barnes 275 TSX in this gun with a col of 2.46 and 38 grains of h110 for a velocity of 2,140 fps which is a published max. It is my understanding that 460 loads are reduced somewhat in the reloading manuals to allow for ease of extracting six cases from the S&W revolver. I would like to go up to 40 grains of h110 in this gun to duplicate my 450 Bushmaster performance if that is safe, but have no way of determining that. I know this is a bushmaster forum, but would appreciate any guidance you could give. Thanks

Had the same problem few years back taking a 450 Marlin guide gun into Canada. Border guy said it had to be 18" and I told him this was way it came from factory. He looked something up and said good to go.

I do have a 45 Raptor (rimless 460) in a Savage bolt gun and and Ruger #1 in 450B. Have ran that 275gr Barnes with 47gr 300MP in both with no issues in either gun. Never chronoed them but they are stout.

On the Raptor I found out that the Fed 215 mag primers cut down my ES to under 20. I have to use a taper crimp as it headspaces on the case mouth like the 450, where as you can get a good roll or Lee FCD crimp seeing it has a rim.

Thanks for the information concerning 300mp powder in the 460. Have never used it and have a large stash of h110, so my question is whether 40 grains of h110 is safe in a ruger #1 using the 275 gr TSX bullet with a col of 2.46, and what might the velocity be? At 38 grains I am getting 2,140 fps. Would like to get to 2,200 fps

how was 300mp compare to H110 for similar velocities in the 460?

Its close, 1-2gr grains slower. I stumbled on it during the shortage few years back when 110/296 was scarce.

If it were my gun, I'd start at 39gr check a couple for velocity and watching for typ pressures, then 39.5, then 40gr. Your not that far from your 2200fps goal and 39 should hit it.

Thanks for the advise on the 460 S&W with 275 gr barnes. 39.5 gr of H110 gave me an an average velocity of 2,227 fps at 15 ft with no signs of pressure, Cases slid in and out of the ruger #1 chamber with no resistance, and primers looked normal. Very good accuracy. Perfect for my needs.
